Get ready for a night full of IPAs and food this weekend in Old Town Clovis at one of the area’s newest beer gardens.
The Central Valley Brewers Guild has chosen the House of Pendragon’s new second location at 760 Pollasky Ave. for the West Coast IPA Throwdown, the second of a three-part competition series.
The throwdown will run Saturday, Aug. 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be blind taste testing featuring a dozen breweries showcasing different West Coast IPAs. Guests can vote to determine the winner.
The Guild chose this new location, which opened last week, to give the community a chance to enjoy local craft beer and help drive traffic to one of their newest member breweries, according to Adam Band, marketing manager for the Brewers Guild.
The House of Pendragon’s first tap room opened in Clovis in 2014 and closed in 2022. The owners wanted to expand into a beer garden and have the capacity to also serve food. After a few years of searching, they found the perfect spot.
The brewery and tap room in Sanger has the same vibe, according to Thomas Caprelian, the owner of House of Pendragon. The only differences at the Clovis location include murals on the walls designed and painted by Kool Hand Luke, a local tattoo artist.
There will also be 24 taps instead of the 32 at the Sanger location. The Clovis location will also be serving food. “We try to do everything handmade,” said Caprelian.
You can expect hand-cut fries fried in beef tallow instead of seed oils, fried mac and cheese balls with homemade ranch and Caprelian’s favorite, the brisket mac and cheese.
The brewery will also be trying out new homemade drinks.
According to Caprelian, they want to start making hard and soft tea, hard lemonade and they currently have a new drink, White Magic, a white peach seltzer.
“Give us a try and expect a new experience each time you come in,” said Caprelian.
