The Walmart Supercenter in Hanford is the latest store to feature the retailer’s new Pickup Tower.

The Pickup Tower functions like a “high-tech vending machine,” according to a news release. Online customers select the “pickup” option at checkout. When the item arrives in store, an associate will load it into the tower and the customer will be notified. Customers can use a touch screen and scan a barcode sent to their smartphone to fulfill their online orders in less than a minute.

The Hanford Pickup Tower is one of 27 such devices employed at Walmart stores across California over the last year.

“The new Pickup Tower is a shopping tool with the customer in mind,” said Hanford store Manager Garry Stidham. “It is convenient, fast, and with millions of items to choose from on our website, we are certain that our Hanford customers will enjoy using it.”
