A coffee shop from a well-known area restaurant group looks to be showing signs of life following an Instagram post last month featuring signage that stirred up social media buzz in anticipation of an opening date.

Last month, the Otherside Coffee Roasters Instagram page, which has been active for nearly a year, posted a photo of the building at 2886 E. Shepherd Ave., Ste 101, with signage along with the comment “Another step closer.”

The first post from January featured a graphic with a cup of coffee.

Tagged on the Instagram page are other restaurants connected to local restaurateurs Brandon Smittcamp and Kevin Koligian — Saizon, Butterfish, Mayd Modern Mediterranean, Limelite and Heirloom; Saizon, which opened in December 2022, is located across the parking lot from Otherside.

When Saizon opened its doors in 2022, the restaurant generated social media buzz about a month before it opened at the Row at Heritage Grove shopping center.

This year, Heirloom was voted as Best Local Lunch Spot to Eat During the Work Week in the Best of the Central Valley Business Awards, marking the first time a restaurant in the ownership group was named an award winner.

And last week, Mayd Modern Mediterranean and its custom Mediterranean bowls were named the best takeout of its kind in the country by DoorDash.

Smittcamp and Koligian did not respond to messages for comment. The group usually remains mum about their highly anticipated openings.
