Shortly after a move from Downtown Fresno, a health-focused cafe and bakery, is permanently closing its doors.

Tree of Life Cafe & Bakery announced via Facebook Thursday its immediate closure. Owners Carolyn and Steve Ocheltree moved the eatery in October 2018 to Blackstone Avenue near Herndon Avenue from its original location on Downtown Fresno’s Kern Street, which opened in 2016.

The cafeteria-style concept had won awards from Fresno Pacific University’s 2015 Spark Tank Pitch Fest for social enterprises, as well as the Downtown Fresno Foundation’s Create Here Business plan.

As part of its social enterprise model, the Ocheltrees employed recovering addicts in their business.

The owners were not immediately available for comment.
