The leading fixed-wireless internet provider in the Central Valley is expanding, finalizing the lease on a new location in Northwest Fresno near Shaw and Golden State avenues, as they continue to expand on their goals of bringing reliable, high-speed broadband internet to rural and underserved communities.
unWired Broadband has focused on rural connectivity since its inception in the early 2000s. Founded with a single tower site near Clovis, unWired has since expanded to cover approximately 17,000 square miles from Sacramento to the Grapevine, supporting over 180 towers in their network.
The addition of more than 16,000 square feet of industrial space in Northwest Fresno will help grow the provider’s NextGen technology – which rolled out earlier this year – boosting the speed of unWired’s connections.
“We began deploying our NextGen plans at the beginning of this year,” said unWired Marketing Director Cherish Stockdale. “Thanks to our NextGen technology that we have started deploying on our towers, we are able to provide much higher speeds for a much lower price.”
unWired hopes to offer NextGen service to their entire coverage area.
Infrastructure modernization has historically been a slower process in rural communities, often due to the need to dig trenches to hardline connections directly to customers.
The fixed wireless technology deployed by unWired allows for connections to be maintained through line-of-sight transmission towers – ideal for the relatively flat landscape of the Central Valley.
“We are constantly expanding our network overall, with an average of three new towers launching every month,” Stockdale added. “This brings fast and reliable internet to those previously unable to access traditional wireline services.”
