A recent report conducted by Fresno State’s Craig School of Business found that Fresno State generates nearly $1 billion annually for the San Joaquin Valley economy.
According to the report, Fresno State generates an average of $954 million through business sales and $391 million in worker income each year.
“We’re deeply proud that Fresno State is a catalyst for economic growth in our region — our educational mission is foundational for even greater long-term success,” Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval said in a press release.
With over 25,000 students and around 2,400 faculty and staff, Fresno State’s community represents 1.5% of Central Valley residents, around the same range as cities like Dinuba and Corcoran.
The report also found that Fresno State and its auxiliaries make up 1.2% of total employment in the San Joaquin Valley.
Dr. Antonio Avalos, who chairs the Economics Department at Fresno State, added that the U.S. Census Bureau found that for every 10% increase in the number of bachelor’s degrees, an increase of over $17,500 in state-median income is produced.
“From increasing the earning power and social mobility of our students to educating the innovators, knowledge workers and business creators of the future, Fresno State is the keystone to uplifting the lives of everyone in the Valley,” Sandoval said. “This report confirms the transformational power of Fresno State.”
