The Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District (FMFCD) wants residents to be informed on water dam safety and preparedness in the event of emergency.
With the excessive rain and snowfall in the Central Valley this past winter, dams that regulate the flow of water into our area are busy.
Though dam failure is an unlikely possibility, the FMFCD is proactively taking steps to ensure the safety of the community by ensuring people know what to expect and what to do in the case of such an event.
FMFCD oversees six water control facilities in central Fresno County, located in eastern Fresno and Clovis — Big Dry Creek, Fancher Creek, Fancher Creek Detention Basin, Redbank Creek, Redbank Creek Detention Basin and Alluvial Drain Detention Basin.
The district encourages residents to familiarize themselves with dam safety and preparedness information available on its website.
The district has developed an inundation mapping tool that allows individuals to search for their location in Central Fresno County and determine if they would be affected by flooding.
