Flights between Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Guadalajara, Mexico resumed Monday after the killing of one of the world’s most wanted drug lords triggered widespread violence and forced cancellations across the region.

Four flights — two arrivals and two departures — were cancelled Sunday at FAT following the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. A fifth flight from Guadalajara to Fresno was delayed, pushing back its return departure as well. Scheduled flights between Fresno and Morelia operated as planned Monday morning.

As of Monday, FAT has not been notified of any additional Guadalajara or international flight cancellations or delays. Passengers with upcoming flights to Mexico are advised to stay in contact with their airline for the latest travel information.

Mexican carriers Volaris and AeroMexico serve nonstop Fresno-to-Mexico routes.

El Mencho was killed during a Mexican military operation carried out in Guadalajara. His death set off an eruption of violence across Jalisco state, prompting international travel warnings.

The UK Foreign Office warned travelers Sunday to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel in affected areas, noting that routes to airports may be blocked and that incidents were being reported across the country.
