With the release of its 2022 crop report this week, Fresno County comes in as the No. 2 agricultural producer in California and the U.S. with a record-breaking gross value of $8.09 billion.
That represents a 0.12% increase over 2021’s value of $8.08 billion.
Tulare County’s $8.6 billion total ag value places it as the top ag producing county in the United States in 2022.
Fresno, Kern and Tulare counties typically make up the top three counties for ag production in the U.S. The three counties account for 44% of California’s total ag production value, which totals $55.8 billion.
For the first time since 2012, grapes are Fresno County’s top leading ag commodity with a gross value of $1.2 billion, which is 15.3% of the total gross value of all crops produced in 2022.
Almonds took the second spot for the county’s ag commodities with a value of $1 billion.
Pistachios rank third with a value of $705 million in 2022.
Fresno County’s field crop value also went up in 2022 to $373 million, up form 2021’s total value of $369 million.
Fruit and nut crops saw a large increase in value in Fresno County, reaching $120 million in 2022, up from 2021’s total value of $81.9 million.
