Following a four-game losing streak, the Central Valley Fuego FC announced Monday it parted ways with head coach Martín Vásquez.
He was named the head coach for Fuego on April 14, 2022.
The Club has appointed Sporting Director Adam Smith as the head coach for the remainder of the season.
The Club secured its first and second international friendly matches with Mexican clubs C.F. Pachuca and the upcoming match against Club Atletico Morelia under Vásquez’s leadership.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Coach Vasquez for his unwavering dedication, passion, and hard work throughout his tenure. His contributions have played an integral role in the growth and development of our organization,” according to a Fuego FC news release.
Smith spent his tenure serving as the sporting director, building the academy program. The Club stated its confidence in Smith as he steps up to a new leadership position.
“Both the players and the technical staff remain committed to our original goal,” Managing Partner Juan G. Ruelas Jr said. “That determination speaks volumes about the character of these men who wear our crest and do so with pride. We want to thank everyone who has been with us during these tough times. This league is not easy. Last season most teams had not clinched a playoff spot until the last possible week. That is how tight League One is. You can expect the level of play to continue to increase as we look forward into 2024 and as the World Cup approaches. Our fans can expect at the very least to see the best fútbol in town, and it is only going to get better!”
Some fans are pleased to hear of Vásquez’s departure.
When the only notable accomplishments you can cite are completely unrelated to the league you actually play in—it shows how terrible of a coach Vasquez was.
Now how about we re-sign @GoDiegoGo30, a player that ACTUALLY "played an integral role" on our team? https://t.co/hHjxjzRuvs pic.twitter.com/UtV19ciuZF

Leah Sadoian commented on social media that Vásquez did little for the Club in the year he was there.
“When the only notable accomplishments you can cite are completely unrelated to the league you actually play in—it shows how terrible of a coach Vasquez was,” Sadoian said.
