A Fresno-based insurance agency is marking what it calls a “full-circle” moment with a family reunion of sorts at its Central Coast office.

DiBuduo & DeFendis Insurance Brokers (D&D), itself a three-generation family business, announced the expansion of its San Luis Obispo office with the addition of Jason Lau, who will work alongside his father, Jim Lau.

Jason brings more than a decade of experience from the software-as-a-service sector, where he partnered with Fortune 500 companies in technology and life sciences to drive growth. He first joined D&D in 2023, specializing in commercial lines and workers’ compensation. As of 2025, he now joins the firm full-time.

“Transitioning to D&D and working alongside my father has been especially rewarding,” said Jason Lau. “I’m excited to continue growing in the industry and building lasting relationships with our clients.”

Jim, a respected broker with more than 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, has spent the past 16 years with DiBuduo & DeFendis in San Luis Obispo. A Chartered Life Underwriter, Jim specializes in commercial property, casualty and workers’ compensation.

“Working with my son at D&D is a great experience,” said Jim Lau. “Passing on my insurance knowledge and book to a blood relative is a form of legacy I never expected. Fifty years in the business is a long time, but I can’t imagine a more rewarding career or a better way to eventually walk away.”

From its Fresno beginnings in 1960, today D&D is one of the largest independent insurance agencies in California with 11 offices throughout the state.
