Kingsburg business owners affected by a recent fire are accepting donations to help them get back on their feet.

The Oct. 15 fire at the historic Stone Hotel building in downtown Kingsburg nearly gutted the second story, causing smoke and water damage to several businesses on the ground floor including a coffee shop, business offices and a salon. Tenants of a next-door building also suffered water damage and have been closed since the fire.

Initial damage estimates peg the total at around $1 million, according to published reports.

Some of the tenants did not have fire insurance to cover their losses, so a GoFundMe account has been set up to aid the tenants.

“In the coming weeks, these businesses will need to purchase all new equipment, furniture, products and other necessities to once again be successful,” according to the page. “These funds will also help them with any costs associated with moving into a new building and starting up again. Some are still evaluating and sorting out their next steps while others are ready to move on.”

The funds will also aid employees needing assistance while they are looking for work or waiting on insurance money to come in, according to the page.

The funding will be dispersed by a committee of the fire’s victims. As of Monday morning, $700 of the $25,000 goal had been reached.
