Costco’s northern migration to one of Fresno’s newest shopping centers continues with a possible groundbreaking this year.

The City of Fresno planning department continues to review project descriptions for the new store at the Marketplace at El Paseo shopping center near Herndon Avenue and Highway 99.

Tom Anderson, broker with Commercial Retail Associates, said he hopes to see the project approved and ground broken by the middle of the year.

The Costco with the new address 7120 N. Riverside Dr. would replace the location at 4500 W. Shaw Ave. The proposed 178,000 square-foot building would also have a 4,800 square-foot car wash and 32-pump gas station.

The project would require a rezone from Community Commercial to General Commercial, according to City documents.

News about the four-mile move broke in late 2021 when the City held a public scoping meeting about the proposal.
