Rep. Jim Costa of Fresno is inviting middle and high school students in California’s 21st Congressional District to participate in the 2025 Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide competition to help increase interest in coding and careers in computer science and STEM.
The challenge is open to students who either live or attend school in the district. All entries must be submitted by Oct. 30 by 9 a.m. The winners will be announced on Dec. 31.
The winning app for each district will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.
Last year’s district winner was Sarah Park, an 11th-grade student at El Diamante High School in Visalia.
Park created MyPie, a diet-tracking app based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate nutrition guide. The tool helps users track servings of protein, vegetables, fruits, grains and dairy.
“Sarah Park’s innovative app, MyPie, showcases the creativity and talent this competition is designed to inspire,” Costa said. “By addressing a real-world issue like healthy eating habits, Sarah has demonstrated the power of technology to improve lives and strengthen communities. I am proud of her achievement and excited for her future.”
Additional information regarding eligibility and rules is available at the official Congressional App Challenge website.
