Comcast announced on Wednesday that it has invested nearly $3.6 million to bring its high-speed broadband network, the Xfinity 10G Network, to Caruthers in Fresno County.

This latest investment follows the company’s high speed broadband expansion in Biola in rural Fresno County, where the company invested $1 million in March of last year.

Comcast also invested $4.5 million in Planada in Merced County this past April.

Work is underway to expand the Xfinity 10G Network in several additional areas of the Fresno and Merced counties.

Residential customers in Caruthers will have access to Xfinity’s suite of internet products including Internet Essentials, which provides low cost, high-speed broadband for financially strained households.

“I greatly appreciate Comcast’s significant investments in our rural communities and the expansion of high-speed broadband access for the residents and business owners in Caruthers,” said Fresno County Supervisor Buddy Mendes. “Continuing to invest in rural communities has a significant, positive impact on the lives of families, students, seniors and veterans and helps to close the Digital Divide.

Businesses in the area will also now be able to utilize the full suite of Comcast Business products and services.

Since the Internet Essentials program was launched in 2011, it has connected more than 1.4 million residents across the state.

From today, through Sept. 30, Comcast will be showcasing products and services available to customers and providing a number of raffle prizes and giveaways to attendees at the Caruthers District Fair.
