Coalinga College announced Tuesday the launch of the school’s women’s basketball program and opened the search for the college’s first head coach.
The news release announcing the launch states that the new program will expand athletic opportunities for female students and will strengthen connection between the local schools and the Coalinga community.
“Women’s Basketball is more than adding a team. It is an investment in equity, opportunity, and pride for the Westside,” said Dr. Carla Tweed, president of Coalinga College in the news release. “Our student-athletes excel academically, step into leadership, and bring a competitive spirit that energizes our campus and community.”
They will compete in the Central Valley Conference, with matchups against sister school Lemoore College. Additional matchups will be announced following the hiring of the head coach.
Tweed added the type of leadership she is looking for in the position.
“We’re seeking a program architect and leader—someone who can recruit, develop players, and set a standard of excellence on and off the court,” Tweed added. “If you’re ready to build something lasting with strong academics, gritty defense, and community connection, we invite you to apply.”
Program updates will be shared on the college website and social media.
