The City of Clovis is on the road to make traveling easier with a new transit system.
The city announced the launch of its new-and-improved transit bus system on Wednesday.
Clovis’ new transit system will have entirely new routes, designed for greater accessibility and efficiency for riders, according to a news release. The new routes launch on Monday, Nov. 17.
The improvements come after several years of surveys and research to design a new system to meet the needs of residents of today and into the future.
In the 25 years that Clovis Transit has operated the two main routes, the city’s population has more than doubled, creating the need for updated, expanded routes, according to the news release.
“We’ve been working on this new system for years, and I’m really excited to finally bring it to our community,” said Bethany Berube, City of Clovis deputy general services director. “The decision to expand and invest in new buses and routes is a direct response to our city’s growth and our ongoing efforts to make transit more accessible. With these new routes, we’ll be able to provide faster, more efficient service, reaching parts of the city that were previously harder to access. It’s all about making sure everyone in our community has the mobility they need.”
The new system replaces the old loop routes with streamlined, color-coded routes along major roadways in Clovis with new connections to help passengers reach their destinations with greater ease and speed.
North and south routes will run along key streets such as Willow Avenue, Clovis Avenue, Sunnyside Avenue and Temperance Avenue.
The east and west routes will cover Herndon Avenue, parts of Barstow Avenue, Fifth Street/ Bullard Avenue, Shaw Avenue and Ashlan Avenue.
The routes are also designed to connect with nearly all Clovis Unified high schools, Clovis Community College and Fresno State, ensuring students have access to reliable transportation.
The city will also introduce new Micro-Transit pick-up and drop-off at two locations for passengers located in the far north and east areas of Clovis.
The drop off locations are at Dry Creek Trailhead and Pasa Tiempo Park. That service launches in December.
