Coming off the heels of this week’s announcement of the closure of a long-time Downtown Fresno hotel, the City of Fresno has released findings of the inspection that led to the closure.

Despite attempts to work with the City of Fresno to modernize the building to current safety standards, the mayor’s office announced Wednesday that they received notice that the repairs would not be completed by the Dec. 30 inspection date for the former Raddison hotel.

Among the violations cited were multiple compromised fire-resistive and fire-rated walls and doors, as well as compromised emergency exit lighting and non-functional fire alarm panels.

Additionally, open gas lines were found in numerous locations, as well as non-functional emergency exit lighting, a non-operating emergency generator and other outstanding code violations.

Originally, the City worked with the hotel’s owners to bring outdated fire systems up to safety standards. The City of Fresno granted hotel owners a temporary measure allowing a 24/7 fire watch to operate while repairs were underway.

“The City has continued to work with the Hotel ownership to bring the 50-year-old fire system up to current safety standards,” read a Dec. 29 statement from Mayor Dyer. “At this time, we can no longer allow a temporary measure to take the place of permanent repairs to the fire alarm system of a multi-story building in the heart of Downtown Fresno.”
