A local security guard is being hailed as a hero after his quick action helped save someone’s life.
On March 1, Jesse Trevino Jr., a security officer for Club One Casino in Fresno, performed CPR on a man who went into cardiac arrest in the restroom.
The victim, 69-year-old Saul Ornelas, was not breathing and had no pulse when 911 was called.
When staff was notified of the situation, Trevino sprang into action, performing CPR and getting Ornelas heart to restart. Trevino helped watch over Ornelas until paramedics arrived and took over.
Ornelas was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno and is recovering and doing well. He expressed gratitude that Trevino was there to save his life.
Club One Casino owner Kyle Kirkland called Trevino a hero and is impressed and thankful for his life-saving actions.
“We like to think everyone can react under pressure like he did, and like I told Jesse, everyone thinks they’re going to be able to perform right up until the point when they need to. We are super grateful he was able to keep his head on him—that is Jesses,” Kirkland said.
Club One provides CPR training for any staff member who wishes to take it, with Trevino attending about five training sessions.
Kirkland said a similar situation occurred at Club One’s old location in Downtown Fresno, but that they weren’t set up for employees to provide CPR. Paramedics promptly arrived and the person survived.
Club One held a ceremony at the card room this week to recognize Trevino for his heroic act. He was rewarded a plaque, a special cake and gift cards to local restaurants.
