The highest court in the Golden State will make a special appearance in Fresno on Wednesday, Oct. 9 — the first time in 14 years.

The California Supreme Court will host its second outreach session under Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero in Fresno next week. Justices will host a question-and-answer session with local students and then hear oral argument on cases on the calendar that day.

Cases on the calendar deal with hospital’s duties to disclose emergency room fees to patients [Capito (Taylor) v. San Jose Healthcare System, LP.] and enforcing co-tenancy provisions in retail lease agreements [JJD-HOV Elk Grove LLC v. Jo-Ann Stores, LLC].

The last time the California Supreme Court heard oral argument in Fresno was 2010, according to a news release from the California court system.

The students attending the session will be from Buchanan High School, Bullard High School, Clovis High School, Clovis North High School, Clovis East High School, Clovis West High School, Coalinga High School, Justin Garza High School, Reedley High School, Roosevelt High School, Maple Creek Elementary, and San Joaquin College of Law.

The court will host the session from the courtroom of the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Fresno, at 2424 Cesar Chavez Boulevard (formerly known as Ventura Street).

The session will also be broadcast live on the Supreme Court website and the California Courts Newsroom.
