The Bulldog Pride Fund (BFP) has received a $71,000 bequest from the Estate of Larry Newsome.

The bequest is the second bestowed to the BPF, an endowed scholarship fund established under the auspices of the Fresno State Alumni Association (FSAA). The first was a $100,000 legacy gift from the Estate of William Beck received in 2008.

“We are most grateful to Mr. Newsome for the tremendous impact that his legacy gift will make to support students at Fresno State,” Peter Robertson, founder of BPF and director of development for FSAA, said in a statement. “Mr. Newsome’s gift will be used to establish two new annual awards of $2,000 each, the details of which will be announced at a later date this spring.”

Currently, the BPF provides six annual awards of $2,000 each, or a total of $12,000 per academic year: the ASI President’s Award, Drum Major Award, GSA Network Award, Harvey Milk Humanics Award, TimeOut Spirit Award, and the USP Presidents Award.

Since 2006, BPF has provided 49 awards valued at $87,000. As of Jan. 21, 2017, total donations to the BPF are $455,812.
