The Boys and Girls Club of Fresno County (BGCFC) will celebrate its annual Youth of the Year award this Thursday, spotlighting the most inspiring teens and their accomplishments toward becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

Thursday’s event will be the first time the event has been held in-person since January 2020, with both 2021 and 2022’s events held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The annual event entering its 28th year highlights not only the BGCFC, but focuses on individuals who personify the organization’s mission in transforming and changing the lives of Valley youth.

The winner of the award has the opportunity to embark on the first stage of a nationwide competition which progresses through the Northern California Youth of the Year title, and then on to state and regional levels. The competition culminates in the national competition with the winner receiving a full college scholarship, a car and a meeting with the U.S. President.

“We see the Youth of the Year winners as Fresno’s future leaders,” said BGCFC President Diana Carbray. “Many of the finalists have gone on to impact their communities in better ways.”

Carbray also thanked one of the organization’s sponsors, Me-n-Ed’s, which has sponsored the Boys and Girls clubs for 20 years.

Registration is available by contacting Marketing and Communications Coordinator Jessica Maxey at (559) 266-3117. The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 26 from 5:15 – 8:30 p.m. at the Zimmerman Boys and Girls Club.
