For the first time, the state of California has allowed entrepreneurs to form a limited liability company online.

The changes, announced Tuesday by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, are part of an initiative to “modernize and digitize” the agency’s divisions, which includes business programs.

Padilla’s digital initiative includes the LLC filing tool, an online trademark and service mark filing tool, business records search and a “starting a new business” resource page.

Padilla joined with officials from the California Chamber of Commerce today to also unveil Eureka, a new artificial intelligence online search assistant, also known as a “chatbot.”

All of the services can be accessed at sos.ca.gov/business-programs/bizfile/
