Depending on how you look at it, the term “legacy media” can be a nice way of referring to old media — broadcast radio, television and newspapers.
When it comes to media institutions that help shape life and discourse in the Central Valley — past and present — the list is short. KMJ is up there, and now television viewers can see for themselves what a 100-year legacy looks like.
Jeff Aiello’s PBS original documentary “KMJ: 100 Years in the Valley” will air Thursday, March 30 at 7 p.m. The film chronicles the station’s beginnings in the golden age of radio to the news talk powerhouse it has become today. It features current and former on-air personalities sharing their stories.
Festivities for KMJ’s anniversary last year also included a concert during the Big Fresno Fair in October 2022 that featured Tower of Power, comedian Paul Rodriguez and Ray Appleton’s band The Appletones.
Speaking of big anniversaries for local legacy media, The Fresno Bee also celebrated its 100-year anniversary last year.
