After 10 years, the Tower District’s basement-level Babylon club is coming back to life.

The Business Journal reported back in April that Laura Barboza, owner of the Azteca Theater in Chinatown, had leased the 11,000-square-foot space with plans to operate it as a club — minus the pool tables for the former billiard hall.

A series of events have been booked at the venue, including “The Creative Commons,” a weekly pop-up featuring artists, vendors, food, DJs, live music and more. It is hosted by Valerie Flores with Transcendent Events and runs every Thursday from 5-9 p.m.

The first “Creative Commons” pop-up was held Thursday night.

Fresno promoter Art Silva is bringing a taste of Compton to Babylon on Aug. 5 starting at 8 p.m. with a show by DJ Yella and Lil Eazy-E. Yella is a former member of N.W.A. and Lil Eazy-E is the son of founding member Eazy-E, who died in 1995.

The concert is part of Silva’s “Summer Kickback” series to benefit the Art Silva Foundation, his nonprofit to support and raise awareness about mental health in the creative community. A companion event, part of the “No Town Chill” series, includes a car and bike show at the Maya Event Center at 1737 E. Shaw Ave. It is also being held Aug. 5 from 2-6 p.m.

Many longtime Tower District visitors are excited to get another look at Babylon, which suffered extensive water damage at the hands of copper wire thieves and was closed in 2013.

The time has finally come.
