The McDonald’s in Sanger, located on Academy Avenue, received an unexpected but very popular visitor on Thursday.
While in the Central Valley during a trip to Yosemite with his son, music superstar John Legend made an appearance in the drive-through, according to a Facebook post by The Sanger Scene.
According to the post, which has garnered nearly 6,000 reactions, an employee at McDonald’s noticed someone who very closely resembled the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award) winner.
“It all started with my coworker telling me the guy pulling to my window looks like John Legend, so as I was about to pass him his order, I just stared at him and immediately recognized him because of his amazing cheekbones,” Jessica Martinez, a McDonald’s employee, told The Sanger Scene.
Legend, who is best known for his song “All of Me,” confirmed his identity and posed for a photo with Martinez, turning what had been a rough day for her into a memorable one.
“Definitely one for the books,” she said, noting that it’s very rare for anyone famous to come to Sanger. “Just thought I’d share this because it’s odd to ever meet anyone famous here in our little hometown!”
The visit occurred during a boys’ trip Legend took with his son, Miles, to a diabetes family camp organized by Diabetes Youth Families, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and families affected by Type 1 diabetes.
“Loved having one-on-one time with him at Yosemite. And it was so cool for him to be around a bunch of kids his age and counselors with diabetes. I learned a lot and I’m so grateful to everyone involved.” Legend wrote on his Instagram.
