The Clubhouse, an athletic training facility planned for Downtown Fresno’s industrial area south of Highway 41, will open on Jan. 1, 2025.
Under part-owner Jacob Garcia and owner Chris Lagow, The Clubhouse’s primary goal is to provide a place for local athletes to grow and develop.
Although Garcia is happy with the current location on 220 M St., the initial plan was for The Clubhouse to be close to Chukchansi Park, the home of the Fresno Grizzlies.
After finding out that a location near Chukchansi Park wouldn’t be possible, Garcia and Lagow spent the next two to three months searching for a home for The Clubhouse.
Once the two saw the 14,000 square-foot building, they knew instantly that it would be an excellent place for them.
“We knew right away that the space was going to fit exactly what we’re offering,” Garcia said. “It was actually a little bit bigger than we initially thought it was going to be, and just for the price and everything else that they’re offering us, it made it a seamless deal.”
After finding out that they had additional space, they “had to go back to the drawing board” and figure out what other services they could offer in addition to baseball and softball.
The additional space will include a golf simulator room, an extra therapy room and a nutrition bar.
Even though The Clubhouse is baseball-centric, Garcia hopes that it can also be useful for athletes of other sports.
“The type of stuff that we have in there is equipped for all athletes in general, and it’s a safe space to be able to work on your craft, take care of your body, get more education on how to take care of your body and how to train your body, and just really surround ourselves with just like-minded individuals that really focus on education and community involvement and just the sports in general,” Garcia said.
Garcia, a Central Valley native who played baseball at Washington Union High School, just seven miles south of The Clubhouse, described the feeling of finding out that they had been approved as a dream come true.
“This is something that I’ve always wanted as a kid, coming into my mid-30s now, and being an athlete in the valley, not really having the access and tools to work on my craft in the winter months or when the weather doesn’t permit,” Garcia said. “I’ve always wanted to do something similar like this my whole life. So, being able to do this and offer other people the opportunity that I quite couldn’t have… I’m just really excited.”
