Moves are being made in the ABC30 newsroom.
Anchor and reporter Brittany Jacob said her goodbyes last week after nearly three years with the station. On Wednesday morning, ABC30 announced that viewers will now start their mornings with Central Valley native Jessica Harrington.
ABC30 parted ways last week with weekend evening anchor and reporter Jacob, who will pursue her MBA at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas Business program on a full ride scholarship.
“I am so grateful to have been a part of the best news team in California. I’m also grateful for our loyal viewers — thank you for trusting us and allowing us into your homes every day to tell the critical stories of our community,” said Jacobs in a social media post.
In 2016, Jacob made the decision to become an on-air news personality, leaving her job in media sales and marketing in Washington, D.C., and moving to Carbondale, Illinois.
During the pandemic, Jacobs joined the ABC30 team as a weekend news anchor in 2020.
Harrington previously reported on multiple topics for ABC30 and anchored on the weekends. Now she will start her weekday mornings early, joining Jason Oliveira on the AM Live program.
“The Central Valley has been my home for nearly my entire life. I get to tell stories about communities I care about — especially all of the little surrounding towns that hold such a special place in my heart. Being here feels like I’m finally getting a chance to give back to the community that has given so much to me,” Harrington said.
Harrington begins as morning news anchor on July 10.
ABC30 on Wednesday also announced a new newscast beginning this fall. Vanessa Vasconcelos will anchor the half-hour Action News Live at 3.
“Seven years ago, when I moved to the Valley, I never imagined an opportunity of this magnitude would come my way,” Vasconcelos. “I want to thank our management for believing in me and trusting me with this responsibility.”
