Superior Dairy, arguably Hanford’s most popular location, officially has new owners– the Zonneveld family, a local dairy family that spans multiple generations and has a farm in Laton.
While the Zonnevelds are not ready to share their full plans for the popular ice cream business, the city of Hanford’s news release states that the “Zonneveld family will carry on the tradition of the cherished landmark.”
The Zonnevelds are “passionate about honoring, preserving and building upon the tradition of Superior Dairy, including the beloved products that residents and visitors have come to enjoy for decades.”
Even before Superior Dairy hit the market in October, the Zonnevelds had desires to eventually purchase the historical building.
“We’re going to invest in the facility and its history to make something that’s special for the community,” the family said in the release. “We grew up going to Superior, and over time we recognized it not only aligned with our larger business plans, but also our love of dairy products, great food and connecting with a wonderful community that our family has called home for four generations.”
Listing agent Ryan Portugal, who graduated from Hanford High School, said that Superior Dairy has been a key part of his life since he was a kid. He announced that a sale had been completed on a social media post Monday afternoon.
“It’s not just a business; it’s a beloved institution that holds a special place in the hearts of so many. I am truly grateful to have found the best people to carry this legacy forward, ensuring that it continues to thrive and evolve within our community,” Portugal wrote. “This transition was not merely about securing the true value of Superior Dairy; it was about entrusting it to new owners who understand its significance to our community and possess the vision to ensure its legacy continues for another 95 years and beyond.”
