Crunch Fitness, the national gym chain, will soon add another gym to its collection of over 400 with a new location in North Fresno. Crunch Fitness started as a small gym in a basement in New York City’s Greenwich Village in 1989.

The new Crunch Fitness location will be located at 7370 N Blackstone Ave., according to a building permit filed with Fresno County. The location has seen multiple tenants over the years. The building, located just south of the River Park Shopping Center, was most recently the home of Big Lots!, which closed in 2024 and opened in the summer of 2019.

“We are excited to bring the Crunch brand to North Fresno. Crunch is for everyone – from the first-time gym-goer to the seasoned athlete,” said Brian Hibbard, CEO of Fitness Ventures LLC, in a June news release. “With a high-energy and fun environment, and memberships starting at $9.99 per month, we have options to meet everyone’s goals and budget.”

Prior to Big Lots!, the building was Babies R Us until the Toys R Us company went bankrupt in 2018.

The new location will feature several state-of-the-art equipment, the HIITZone for high-intensity training and group fitness classes. Members also have access to HydroMassage and tanning beds.

There is currently one Crunch Fitness location in Clovis at Shaw and Minnewawa. Another location on Figarden Drive closed in 2024.

The news release from Crunch Fitness stated that the new location will open in winter 2025. A call left for Crunch Fitness was not immediately returned.
