Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer announced Thursday that the city has awarded a contract for the design and construction of the City’s first-ever dedicated senior center, expected to break ground in 2025.

The contract, a $30 million, 35,000 square-foot senior center, was awarded to Integrated Community Development of Woodland Hills, and will offer a wide range of programs and services for seniors.

“This is quite the milestone for our city, as it reflects our commitment to enhance the lives of our aging population,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “The senior center will be a hub for connection, education, and support fostering a sense of belonging and dignity for our seniors.”

The center will provide a variety of services and programs ranging from meal and nutrition programs to health and wellness programs, art programs and other services.

Amenities at the senior center will include a heated swimming pool, pickleball courts, bocci ball courts, open greenspace, landscaped garden areas, pedestrian walkways and more.

The center will also include amenities including pickleball courts, bocci ball courts, green space, landscaped garden areas, pedestrian walkways and more.

“The well-being of our senior community is a top priority for the City of Fresno,” said Councilmember Tyler Maxwell. They deserve nothing but the best.”

Maxwell added that the center will help support Fresno’s senior population — a population that has often felt overlooked in the past, adding that the contribution of a $30 million investment to a project like this is rare, but worth every dollar spent.

The property — a former Vons grocery store on Blackstone Ave. — was purchased by the City in 2022 for $6.46 million, $4.99 million of which came from Community Development Block Grants.
