A Downtown Fresno gelato shop launched by former Bitwise Industries employees Jordan Sanchez and Tami Waters is up for sale less than a year after its highly anticipated opening at Warnors Center.
The shop was part of the ongoing revival for the historic theater complex at Tuolumne and Fulton streets, with Sanchez and Waters aiming to bring energy back to the area following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The duo expressed joy at the opportunity to open a gelato shop — something the pair had been planning since before the closure of Bitwise. But they said despite their love for the shop, their other business ventures are both requiring too much time and attention to give the gelato shop their full attention.
Sanchez, who also owns J Street Studios in Downtown Fresno, took a full-time role as deputy chief of staff for Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer; Waters is immersed in expanding her interior design business, Tipping Pointe Design, which is undergoing a rebrand and handling major projects.
In a series of Instagram reels on Nov. 3, the owners said, “When we started the shop last July, Jordan had recently been laid off from Bitwise, but since has secured a full-time employment. She also runs @j.street.studios, and Tami…has a thriving interior design business…With both of us balancing multiple commitments, we’ve made the tough decision to sell the shop due to bandwidth constraints.”
The shop is being offered at $15,000, with no further investment required to continue operations. Some of the monthly operating costs include $788 for rent, $250 for insurance and approximately $2,000 for inventory from distributor Gelato Classico, which has proven popular among customers.
Gelateria Del Centro previously operated with extended hours, but due to employees accepting other employment, the shop’s hours are Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The store offers a variety of flavors such as caramello chocolate crunch and limoncello, alongside seasonal options like peach cobbler amaretto.
“We’d love to see the shop go to a local buyer who has a heart for downtown, but are open to outside investors who see the potential,” they said in their social media posts.
An open house for interested buyers was held on Sunday.
