The City of Porterville announced Hergesheimer’s Donut Factory as an Outstanding Business Honoree at last week’s city council meeting.
Each year, the city honors three local businesses as Outstanding Business Honorees; Hergesheimer’s joins Happy Hearts Children’s Center and Nanlangka Teppanyaki and Sushi Bar as the third business to be honored with the recognition this year.
The donut shop has been in business since 1975. First established by Bobby Joe Hergesheimer and his brothers Carl and Jim, the store has been operated by Amanda Yan and her family since 2006.
The shop actively participates in community outreach, often joining in various local fundraisers. Hergesheimer’s actively contributes to causes including local cancer care and child abuse prevention through Yan’s membership in the Porterville Breakfast Club Rotary, the Porterville Exchange Club and Porterville Chamber.
Joined by her children and mother, Yan is known in the community for attending local events, keeping Hergesheimer’s a familiar name in the community.
“Amanda and her family’s dedication to producing fresh, quality baked goods and providing people-focused customer service has made Hergesheimer’s Donut Factory a local business success,” said a new release from the City of Porterville. “A sense of love and commitment to the community has led Amanda to dedicate much of her time to building relationships with community members and giving back by interacting with other businesses, community organizations and local non-profits.”
The honor is not the business’ first Tulare County honors; in 2022, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors recognized the shop as a Small Business of the Year nominee.
Also in 2022, Yan expanded the business by opening Amanda Hergesheimer’s La Tienda Market in Strathmore, selling donuts, sandwiches and boba drinks as well as staple grocery items.
Yan is also in the process of reopening Amanda’s Express Donuts and Food, a drive-up location adjacent to the donut shop, offering donuts, hot dogs, Frito boats and sandwiches.
Hergesheimer’s Donut Factory is located at 963 W. Henderson Ave. in Porterville and is open Monday through Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
