An iconic Los Angeles doughnut shop is in expansion mode, and Fresno appears to be part of the plan, according to a recently executed lease.

Randy’s Donuts has signed a lease for a 5,000 square-foot building near Highway 99 and Ashlan Avenue. The Inglewood-based shop is famous for its giant rooftop doughnut, which has appeared in countless movies, music videos and television shows.

CEO Mark Kelegian, who purchased the chain for about $2 million in 2015, told the Los Angeles Business Journal that he has plans for 150 franchised locations to open or be under development in the U.S. by the end of 2023. Some 300 additional locations are planned internationally.

The chain has 19 international franchise locations in the Philippines, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. There are currently 15 locations in the U.S. Nine are corporate owned, reported the LA Business Journal.

While Randy’s Donuts Fresno lease is an indication that Central Valley locations may be in the works, the building is not a storefront. It is located in a light industrial area of Northwest Fresno. City development records indicate it could be used as a commissary.

A Randy’s Donuts spokesperson on Monday declined to comment at this time.

Gary Shahbazian. Buk Wager, Charlie Schuh and Brett Todd with Colliers International in Fresno were the agents on the lease of 3730 W. Holland Ave. to Randy’s Donuts.

This isn’t Randy’s Donuts first foray into the San Joaquin Valley. A Bakersfield location closed in March after less than two years in operation, reported Bakersfield 23 news.
