Fresno is making headway when it comes to attracting “digital nomads,” according to a poll conducted by private lodging company Airbnb.
Fresno was named a top 5 city for hospitality in the poll conducted in the U.S. and Canada.
A digital nomad is defined as a remote worker capable of working in multiple fields, including sales, accounting, customer service and more, who travels to different locations, working in coffee shops, co-working spaces, public libraries and other locations offering wireless internet.
The survey, released by Airbnb News, shows Fresno named one of the most hospitable cities for digital nomad work. It takes into account the highest percentages of five-star reviews. The survey places Fresno in fifth place with a 90% five-star review rate.
Other cities mentioned in the survey include Bend, Oregon (93.7%); Santa Fe, New Mexico (91.7%); Boulder, Colorado (91%); and Key West Florida (90.2%).
Other categories in the survey include top earnings for longterm stays, best equipped cities, most affordable cities and most popular cities.
California has eight entries on the list.
Specifically, California holds three of the top five cities for top earnings, including La Quinta, Palm Springs and Indio.
Los Angeles and San Francisco also rank in the most popular cities category.
According to the survey, one in five guests reported using Airbnb to work remotely in 2021. The survey states that trend is continuing throughout the first quarter of 2022.
Recently, Airbnb announced that it will create dedicated custom-built hubs for their destinations, allowing remote workers much easier access to wireless internet. The program is expected to launch later this year, with an initial California location in Palm Springs.
