A new head coach will be calling the plays for Fresno State football beginning in the 2020-21 season. And he’s no stranger to the university.

Fresno State announced Tuesday that Kalen DeBoer would be taking the position of head coach.

Former Head Coach Jeff Tedford announced earlier this month he would be stepping down due to health reasons.

During Tedford’s tenure, DeBoer served as offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs for 2017 and 2018, according to ESPN. He then moved to Indiana and became offensive coordinator for the University of Indiana Hoosiers. In that time, the team’s offense was ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten, averaging 443.6 yards per game, ESPN reported.

Fresno State went 4-8 this season but had a 26-14 record in three seasons under Tedford.
