San Joaquin College of Law (SJCL) has entered a lease-purchase agreement to move its library into the Clovis Senior Center, which is being vacated soon.

San Joaquin College of Law (SJCL) has entered a lease-purchase agreement to move its library into the Clovis Senior Center, which is being vacated soon.

The Clovis City Council voted on the implementation of the agreement on Monday and the building will be leased at $90,000 per year for 20 years, with the option to buy it for $1 at the end of that period. Councilperson Bob Whalen, a member of the SJCL Board of Trustees, abstained from voting in the otherwise unanimous decision.

The City of Clovis aims to use the money to help finance the new senior center at Veterans Parkway and Third Street, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. SJCL hopes to have the building occupied and ready between August 2020 and January 2021.

More than 1,500 students have attained a Juris Doctor from San Joaquin College of Law since its inception in 1969. The Law school currently counts 47 bench officers among its alumni ranks.
