Fresno Councilmember Tyler Maxwell and Mayor Jerry Dyer will hold a news conference Tuesday at Storyland in Roeding Park to celebrate a $1 million grant for the reading-themed landmark.
The grant is coming from Care Fresno, a nonprofit focus on providing resources for under-resourced youth in Fresno, according to a news release.
The investment will fund needed upgrades to Storyland, to “make the space more accessible and welcoming for children and families across Fresno,” according to the release.
Founded in 1962, Storyland features play areas themed after popular fairytales such as “Three Little Pigs” and “Alice in Wonderland.” Visitors can purchase “magic keys” that can unlock boxes that play recordings of the stories.
The park was forced to shut down for nearly a year in 2015 before it was reopened to the public due to support from the community.
