The C-SPAN network, known for its television coverage of federal government proceedings, will be in Visalia next week to highlight the community’s literary and historic sites.

The visit will record the history and non-fiction literary life of the city as part of the network’s 2019 C-SPAN Cities Tour. Segments will air on the network’s non-fiction book channel Book TV on C-SPAN2 and the history channel American History TV on C-SPAN3, according to a news release.

C-SPAN producers will visit the town from Jan. 6-10 visiting various sites and interviewing local historians and non-fiction authors and conducting educational and community outreach.

The segments recorded will air Feb. 2-3.

Visalia Mayor Bob Link will host a special ceremony Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. at the Visalia City Hall council chambers to welcome the C-SPAN producers, who plan to reveal the stories and segments that will be explored.

Other cities that will be explored during the 2019 tour include Santa Monica, California; Independence, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois.
