Valley Children’s Healthcare announced Wednesday that it will be keeping the River Park Golf Center open under new ownership.

In September, the health care network purchased the 59-acre property along Highway 41, east of the hospital campus, and by October, it announced it would be closing the course.

However, the hospital decided to incorporate the 9-hole course as a part of its master plan for ongoing development. It will be known as the Valley Golf Center.

“I’m thrilled that Valley Golf Center will continue to serve the community for as long as possible,” says Valley Children’s President and CEO Todd Suntrapak. “The center is a valued resource for hundreds of students and for The First Tee of Fresno.”

Beginning Jan. 12, 2018, Cindy Vining, an LPGA teaching professional, will take over operations for the course.

“I have grown up playing golf and know firsthand the values it teaches,” said Vining. “We are excited that schools and our golfing community will continue to have a premiere facility to use for lessons, practices and events.”

The course will be open to the public.
