Steak will be on the menu at Fresno’s River Park when a new restaurant opens its doors this month.

Brazilian-style steakhouse Texas de Brazil is planning a tentative opening Oct. 24, according to Hannah Thompson, director of marketing for the company. It occupies the space where Chevy’s Fresh Mex was located before closing suddenly in 2016.

The “churrascaria” – Portuguese for “barbecue” – features a fixed menu where customers pay a single price for a 50-item salad bar and roaming meat samples.

Servers wander the tables wielding skewers of seasoned beef, chicken, lamb, pork or sausage, slicing off bits to diners’ content. A green or red chip is placed at the end of the table to indicate whether or not guests are ready for more.

At the salad bar are grilled vegetables, charcuterie plates–fine cheeses and meats–lobster bisque and more.

For the time being, it will be limited to dinners, but down the road, they are looking to serve lunch as well, said Thompson.

The restaurant is corporately owned. It has 57 locations worldwide. General manager Jamie-Lee Slaten came over from the Irvine location to oversee operations.

Upon settling in, the company reaches out to local businesses and hotels nearby to introduce themselves and show the space, discussing happy hour, private dining and group packages.

The restaurant has a full bar and will also feature caipirinha (pronounced Kay-per-in-ya), a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaca, a rum-like liquor made with sugar cane instead of molasses.

It is $44.99 per person for the salad area and meat service and $24.99 for the salad alone.
