A Selma woman has been charged with embezzlement and forgery on suspicion of stealing $620,000 from her employer.

Jennifer Macias, 40, of Selma, was arrested and booked into Fresno County Jail on a $47,000 bond, the Fresno Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday. She posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 10.

The investigation began in February when deputies received a report from a farming company in Kingsburg. Allegation were made that Macias, the company’s bookkeeper, had been embezzling.

When the farm owner noticed unusual activity in business accounts in early 2020, a bank investigation found that dating back to 2018 Macias had allegedly altered hundreds of business checks and deposited the money into her personal bank account. She is accused of stealing approximately $620,000 in this time period.

If anyone has additional information to share about Macias, call the Fresno Sheriff’s Office Ag Task Force at 559-600-8150.
