Sakura Chaya will be expanding later this year into Clovis’ Sierra Vista Mall, according to sources at the mall and at the restaurant.

The new restaurant, Sakura Tokyo, will offer teppanyaki but the rest of the menu is not yet decided, according to Natalie Khan, marketing director at Sierra Vista Mall. The restaurant will be the first Japanese restaurant for the mall and will take up about 8,000 square feet next to No Surrender Laser Tag & Adventure Park.

The tenant improvement permit filed with the city was valued at just over $280,000, which includes a kitchen. Construction fencing went up about a week ago and it is slated to be open in the next six months.

“We’re looking toward the end of the year, but before the holidays,” Khan said.

Sakura Chaya, located at 690 E. Nees Ave is known for its teppanyaki and sushi. It won Best Asian Restaurant at the 2018 California Restaurant Association awards.
