Saint Agnes announced Monday it is adopting Saint Agnes Health as its new ministry name, reflecting its expansion from a single hospital into a broader network of health care services throughout the Central Valley.

Saint Agnes Health will serve as the overarching identity for the organization’s expanded facilities, specialty services, advanced technologies, growing physician network, health plan, outpatient presence and outreach to underserved communities.

The Saint Agnes Health network comprises five primary branches: Saint Agnes Medical Center, Saint Agnes Medical Foundation, Saint Agnes Graduate Medical Education, Central Valley Health Plan and connected outreach services.

Offering clarity for growing network

The organization said the name change provides a clearer way to describe its growing network of services, many of which reach patients outside the walls of Saint Agnes Medical Center.

“While our name is changing to better reflect the growth of our ministry, we remain rooted in our mission – to serve as a healing presence within the Central Valley,” said Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, president and market leader of Saint Agnes Health. “We will continue to serve with compassion, dignity and reverence for every person, be welcoming and inclusive to all who trust us with their care, and honor the healing ministry started by the Sisters of the Holy Cross nearly a century ago.”

Saint Agnes traces its history to 1929, when the Sisters of the Holy Cross founded Saint Agnes Hospital in downtown Fresno. Nearly a century later, the organization has expanded its presence and services to meet the changing health care needs of the Central Valley.

Name changes ongoing in Valley

Saint Agnes is the latest major Central Valley health care provider to adopt a broader systemwide name as its services expand beyond hospital care.

In 2021, Fresno-based Community Medical Centers introduced Community Health System as the umbrella name for its hospitals, physician network and locally based health plan.

That same year, Visalia-based Kaweah Delta became Kaweah Health. The organization said the rebranding better reflected the breadth of its services and its evolving role beyond treating illness and injuries to promoting overall health and wellness.
