The first batch of performers for this year’s Big Fresno Fair has been announced, and one of them is controversial comic and television star Roseanne Barr.

She starred on the highly successful ABC sitcom “Roseanne” from 1988-1997, and the show – with the original actors and new ones – was revived last year with high ratings.

But that success was short lived, when Barr – a lightning pole for controversy even early on in her TV career – made a political comment in a tweet that was widely regarded as racist.

In response, ABC cancelled the new Roseanne show, though it soon brought it back with the new name, “The Conners,” with Barr’s lead character written out of it.

Now Barr, whose career started as a stand-up comedian focusing on her life as a working-class wife and mother, is back to telling jokes to audiences with the Big Fresno Fair on her itinerary on Oct. 8.

Full-price tickets for her concert will sell for $30, $35 and $45.

Other performers scheduled to headline the 2019 Table Mountain Casino Concert Series at the Fresno Fairground’s Paul Paul Theater are Spanish-language singer and songwriter Christian Nodal on Oct. 6, Christian rock band Newsboys on Oct. 9 and soul and funk bands Tower of Power and WAR sharing the stage Oct. 10.

The Fair will offer from May 7-13 online pre-sales of tickets to these concerts to members of the Big Fair Fan (BFF) Club, the fair’s free email newsletter. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on May 14. During that time, any BFF Club member who purchases a concert ticket will be able to buy fair admission tickets for half price.

Also beginning May 7, BFF Club members will be able to garner more savings with $2 off admission tickets, which otherwise would sell for $12 for adults and $8 for children, seniors 62 years and older and military members. The club members also will be able to get season passes at $6 discounts for $32 and Unlimited Carnival Ride wristbands for discounted rates of $28.

The Big Fresno Fair will run Oct. 2-14. For more information, go online to www.FresnoFair.com.
