Aldi Food Market, the German supermarket chain that just recently expanded to the Central Valley, has signed a lease for a 20,181 square-foot space in Clovis, reported real estate broker Newmark Pearson Commercial.
A former Fresh & Easy location, the space at 1725 Herndon Ave. near Fowler Avenue has been vacant since 2015.
Andy Haussler, economic development director for Clovis, confirmed that Aldi has submitted plans for tenant improvements. He did not know when it might open.
A representative from Aldi was not immediately available for comment.
The Valley is part of the chain’s U.S. expansion. The first local location opened in Porterville in December. Another lease was announced in Hanford that could open by spring, according to published reports.
