Veteran newspaper reporter David Castellon is among the people on the move and has joined the staff of The Business Journal. His beats include real estate, agriculture, manufacturing and distribution, transportation, construction and law. A native of Southern California, Castellon has worked for daily newspapers across the country in Albany, Oregon; Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.; Ogden, Utah; Fort Worth, Texas; and Stockton, as well as for the weekly Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times newspapers. Most recently, he covered the technology, environment, agriculture, science and ecology beats for Gannett newspapers in Visalia, Tulare and Salinas, and prior to that he covered city and county government and public-safety beats in Visalia and Tulare.


REAL ESTATE

Commercial real estate services firm Colliers International has named its 2016 top performers as people on the move: Beau Plumlee, Scott Buchanan and Brett Todd .

MARKETING

McCormick Marketing President Eric McCormick announced that his firm has earned a certified Google Partner status for display advertising, giving the company exclusive access to private Google events, beta programs, marketing support and a Google Partner profile page. McCormick said his firm is one of four local ad agencies to earn the certification.

SMALL BUSINESS

The Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce (FMBCC) recently announced the selection of Tara Lynn Gray as its new CEO and president. Gray comes to FMBCC with an extensive background in advocacy, small business development and technical training. She has served in leadership roles at various organizations including the California Black Chamber of Commerce, Solano and Alameda County Small Business Development Centers and the California Black Health Network. She also runs her own informational technology consulting business called YADARI Enterprises.

EDUCATION

Jessica Peres Baird, formerly a television reporter and anchor with ABC30 Action News since 2006, has taken a job as the new public information officer for the Fresno Unified School District. Baird joined the district earlier this month, replacing Jed Chernabaeff, who took a position as public information officer for Ventura County in Southern California. Baird will be responsible for handling media inquiries to the district and supporting school sites during emergencies or crisis. A native of Princeton, New Jersey, Peres started her television career interning for MTV Networks at Nickelodeon. She also served as production assistant at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia and reporter for WZBN-TV in New Jersey before taking a job with KFSN in Fresno. She served as the station’s education reporter starting in 2014.

State Center Community College District will honor its 2017 Wall of Honor inductees during a special ceremony today from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Fresno City College’s Old Administration Building.  This year’s inductees include Tamara Epperson, Marshall Kelley and Dr. Joe H. Lee. Tamara Epperson is a Madera Community College Center accounting and business administration instructor. Marshall Kelley attended Fresno City College and was among one of the first African Americans to become a certified public accountant from the Fresno area.  Dr. Joe H. Lee also attended Fresno City College before becoming the West Fresno School District Superintendent.
