Several local business leaders and organizations will be recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) California Valley Chapter as part of National Philanthropy Day (NPD) Nov. 10.


Businesses and organizations being honored include DeYoung Properties, Kaiser Permanente, Lowe’s Companies, Inc., AT&T, the Storyland Foundation and Heavenly Hounds. Individuals to be honored include Jon and Valerie Keller of Keller Motors, Karin Chao-Bushoven, the director of major gifts at Fresno Pacific University, Marina Whelan, Bruce and Wendy Batti, Tony Taylor, Dominic Ortiz, Scott Miller, Justin Vatanian, Scott Shehadey and Gina Cuttone. Danay Furguson and Erika Castanon will also be honored as outstanding youth in philanthropy.

NPD provides an opportunity for communities to reflect on the meaning of giving. First held in 1986, NPD celebrates the daily contributions individuals and organizations makes to countless causes and missions. In 2015, over 100 AFP chapters held NPD events.

The Central California celebration will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Falls Event Center in Fresno. The event begins with a continental breakfast, followed by a workshop with Jay Frost, who will speak on the topic “Power Prospecting and Social Media, Moving From Engagement to Action.” The awards luncheon will be held after the workshop.
