The Central California Women’s Conference announced that former California First Lady and journalist Maria Shriver will be the keynote speaker at the annual September event.

“We have tried to get Maria Shriver for the past ten years,” said CCWC Board President Nene Casares. “So you can imagine how thrilled we are. We know this year will be extra special as Maria shares her life-changing ideas with our attendees.”

The theme for the event is “be the difference,” and through workshops and speeches will show attendees how to use their differences to bolster careers, relationships and their own personal growth, according to a press release from the organization.

In addition to being an activist and journalist, Shriver is an author, and her newest book, “I’ve Been Thinking…” Reflections, Prayers and Meditations for a Meaningful Life,” is a New York Times bestseller offering guidance and encouragement for individuals.

Shriver was First Lady of California when Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor. She has won numerous awards, including an Emmy and Peabody award for her work on welfare reform. Her uncles were former President John F. Kennedy and former Senator Ted Kennedy.

Other speakers will be author and media entrepreneur Mallika Chopra, daughter of Deepak Chopra—known for his alternative medicine and advocacy— who has written and spoken on “living with intent.”

In the evening, after the convention’s raffles and cool-down sessions, comedian Karen Mills will speak.

The 31st Annual Central California Women’s Conference will take place on September 25 from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale on June 5 and are $125 each. Attendance is limited to 3,500 people.
