A Modesto man was sentenced to nearly 12 years in prison for his part in stealing 50 firearms from a Fresno gun store last year.

Chief U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. O’Neill on Monday sentenced Johnny Sanchez, 22, to 11 years and eight months in prison for the October 2017 burglary of PRK Arms in Central Fresno.

Modesto’s Nathan Creel, 22, also plead guilty to conspiring with Sanchez and three others in the burglary, which was committed at about 11 p.m. when the shop was closed. The defendants stole about 50 firearms, including rifles and handguns – most of which the defendants sold to others, according to a news release from U.S. Department of Justice.

Creel is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 11, 2019, and faces a maximum statutory penalty of 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, though the actual sentence will be made at the discretion of the court.

Another conspirator, James Britt, also plead guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced March 25, 2019. Charges are pending against David Avina and Luis Galvan, who were arrested in November 2017 in a series of SWAT raids in Modesto.
